Chaperone/Counselor Responsibilities

Counselors and chaperones are responsible for:

1. The welfare, conduct and supervision of Youth Scholars.
   
2. Insuring the Youth Scholars maintain proper behavior and attitudes.
3. Enforcing Youth Scholar curfews.
4. Ensuring that Youth Scholars are on time for each day’s activities.
5. Ensuring that Youth Scholars attend all scheduled NICE activities.  Participation is required for all activities unless prior notice is given and consent from NICE leadership is obtained.
6. Attending and observing scheduled Youth Scholar activities.
7. Monitoring Youth Scholar rooms to promote cleanliness and safety.
8. Informing NICE leadership in cases of emergency or other situations that affect Youth Scholars.  Always provide name, address and phone number of youth involved.
9. Inspecting individual Youth Scholar rooms prior to departure and reporting any damages to the rooms or furnishings.
10. Collecting and accounting for individual room keys assigned to your state delegation.
11. Assisting NICE leadership in organizing and coordinating special events.
12. Accompanying Youth Scholars when leaving NICE activities and facilities (meeting rooms or residence halls) and supervising all NICE activities off of the University of Tennessee campus.
